Gallic acid isopropyl ester - Introduction
Isopropyl gallate (MIBK) is an organic solvent having a colorless liquid state. It has low volatility and high boiling point (117 ℃), can dissolve a variety of organic compounds and resins. Specific properties are as follows:
1. Solubility: MIBK can dissolve many organic compounds, such as fats and aromatic hydrocarbons, as well as some resins, rubber and natural resins.
2. Volatility: MIBK has low volatility and is not easy to volatilize rapidly at room temperature.
3. Stability: MIBK has good stability and is not easy to be oxidized or decomposed.
MIBK has a wide range of uses, including the following:
1. Industry: MIBK is widely used in chemical industry, printing, wet metallurgy, synthetic fiber, synthetic resin and other industries as a solvent. It can be used for the production and processing of paints, coatings, varnishes, glues, dyes, inks, etc.
2. Pharmaceutical field: MIBK can be used as an intermediate in the synthesis of certain drugs, for example, for the synthesis of certain antibiotics.
3. Laboratory: MIBK can be used as extractant, solvent and reaction medium in the laboratory.
There are two general methods for the preparation of MIBK:
1. isobutanol anhydride method: isobutanol is reacted with pyridine and anhydrous organic acid (such as pyrrolidone) under heating conditions, and then purified by distillation to obtain MIBK.
2. Isopropanol oxidation method: isopropanol is reacted with oxygen in the presence of a catalyst to generate MIBK, which is then purified by distillation.
The following safety precautions should be taken when using MIBK:
1. MIBK is flammable and should be kept away from open flames and high temperatures to avoid sparks.
2. avoid prolonged contact with skin, use should wear protective gloves and protective glasses.
3. Do not inhale MIBK vapor, it should be used in a well-ventilated place, and avoid prolonged exposure to high-concentration vapor.
4. When using MIBK, ensure that the operating area is well ventilated to reduce potential health risks.
